“I am not an athlete….I am NOT an athlete….”
I cannot lie. This was my initial reaction to being told that I was the “Athlete of the Month”. Can you blame me?? I have the privilege of working out with those who, to my friends and family, I respectfully refer to as the “Navy Seals”. Its humbling to walk into a new gym when you are out of shape and have a significant amount of weight to loose. That is why I love Beartooth CrossFit….it has helped me find a different inner voice….an empowered one!
What matters in our box is effort. Effort. Every day I show up, I know that our trainers will have to modify the WOD for my fitness level but this is not humiliating. I know that if I push myself and work hard, that is what will be respected. I may be out of breath and exhausted at the end of the workout but so is the person to the left of me….and the person to the right of me. There is camaraderie in that knowledge.
Right now my immediate goal is just to be regular and do my best at every movement. I have a long way to go before I will reach my ultimate goals….but I’m really grateful to have people in my life who share a passion for health and fitness. I’m glad I listened to the encouragement of my friend Molly who does CrossFit in Arizona. I also truly appreciate the encouragement from our amazing coaches and my fellow BTCF’ers. I already feel so much stronger on the outside….and on the inside. I will tell anyone who will listen…don’t hesitate out of fear or intimidation to do CrossFit. This works!
What is my new inner voice’s mantra?
Keep. Going. Breathe. Do. Not. Stop.
